The Jewelled Lotus

I'd like to share my background and experience with you.

I began practising yoga at 30. Many of us in the West did not have the opportunity to learn about yoga until we were well into our adulthood.

After practising yoga at Yoga West in Vancouver for a year, I took my teacher training. Yoga West (Vancouver) offers Kundalini Yoga Teachers training, through the Kundalini Yoga Institute (KYI). This is the same institute that is registered under the Yoga Alliance in the US. I am also a registered member of the Yoga Alliance and a member of the Yoga Association of BC (YABC). See more about Yoga Alliance standards on their website.

My teachers, Dharm Kaur Khalsa and Guru Raj Kaur Khalsa have been trained under Yogi Bhajan (the Siri Singh Sahib: Harbhajan Singh Khalsa) For more information on Yogi Bhajan logon to 3ho.org or www.yogawest.ca. They both have been teaching and teacher trainers for over 15 years. They are certified through KYI to train teachers to become Kundalini Yoga teachers (as taught by Yogi Bhajan).

I received my certificate of teaching in 1997 and have taught in Vancouver and the Fraser Valley since. I continue to upgrade my skills every year. Most recently I took a workshop in pre-natal and post natal yoga with Dharm Kaur Khalsa and am able to teach in this area (March 2003). As well, I have received teacher training for childrens yoga from Shakta Kaur Khalsa (most well known for her book KISS series Yoga; she also has taught many years in schools and inner city children). I continue to grow in my teaching and personal practise through reading extensively and attending workshops and retreats whenever possible.

I offer private instructions as well as group classes. Throughout the year I run "Yoga for Anxiety and Depression" workshop as well as a "Yoga for the Chakras" series. Teaching primarily in Mission and Abbotsford, I also offer classes periodically in Chilliwack. For several years I am part of the alternative therapies theory in 3rd year nursing program a UCFV and have spoken at the Chilliwack Health and Wellness Conference in 2005, 2006 and 2007.

I have a passion for learning and teaching. Creating conscious relationship, my marriage and my students inspire me to grow, changes and become more everyday. I am blessed with the opportunity to offer Kundalini Yoga and meditation. Yoga influences every aspect of my experience. This way of life challenges me to be authentic in every thought and action. An what other way is there to live?
